This homemade maple ice cream with chocolate syrup is a decadent dessert suitable for any occasion. The rich and creamy ice cream is made with pure maple syrup and is paired with an easy-to-make homemade chocolate syrup that adds the perfect touch of sweetness.

  • Prep Time: 20 minutes
  • Cook Time: 15 minutes
  • Total Time: 35 minutes

Instructions

  • Combine the heavy cream, whole milk, maple syrup, sugar, and salt in a saucepan.
  • Cook, stirring occasionally, over medium heat until the mixture reaches a simmer.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks.
  • Whisk constantly as you slowly pour the hot cream mixture into the egg yolks.
  • Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook, stirring constantly, over low heat until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
  • Remove from the heat and add the vanilla extract.
  • Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature in a container.
  • Chill for at least 2 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.
  • After chilling the ice cream mixture, churn it in an ice cream maker according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Prepare the chocolate syrup while the ice cream is churning.
  • Combine the chocolate chips and 1/4 cup heavy cream in a microwave-safe bowl.
  • Microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each, until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth.
  • Allow the chocolate syrup to reach room temperature.
  • When the ice cream is finished churning, drizzle it with the chocolate syrup and stir it in with a spatula or spoon.
  • Freeze the ice cream in a freezer-safe container for at least 2 hours, or until firm.
